If you’ve not tried one of these, I highly recommend it. I use a hands-free waist lead that clips around my hips — it gives my dog a bit of freedom, and I can carry coffee or take photos without juggling a lead. Especially useful when you’re climbing the dunes!

💧 2. Collapsible Water Bowl & Bottle Combo
There’s nothing like watching your dog lap up cold water after a long walk through the woods. I keep a fold-flat silicone bowl clipped to my backpack and bring a filtered water bottle just for her.

🎒 3. Lightweight Backpack (with Treat Pocket)
I used to carry things in my coat pockets. Not anymore. Now I use a small hiking backpack — light, breathable, and with just enough space for treats, a waterproof, and a snack for me too.

🐕 4. Extra Long Recall Lead (For Training or Big Open Spaces)
Some areas of the pinewoods open up beautifully — great for a good off-lead run. But if you’re still working on recall, or your dog’s easily distracted (squirrels are everywhere!), I carry a 10m training lead that gives freedom without full release.

There’s no need to overpack. A treat, some water, a good lead, and a warm layer usually do the trick. The key is to walk light, let the dog sniff everything, and take your time.
